According to the National Institute of Health, high blood pressure, or hypertension, impacts one in three Americans. With high blood pressure being such a frequent health concern, and in chronic cases can lead to heart disease and stroke, it is important to stay informed and know what you can do to combat potential risks. May is National Blood Pressure Month, and below we’ve shared three key facts to raise awareness!

  1. High Blood Pressure Impacts Americans of All Ages

    Nearly 1 in 4 adults in the 20-44 years-old age bracket have high blood pressure. Even if you think you may not be at risk, we recommend regular check-ins with your doctor. 

  2. Take Preventative Measures

    There are many lifestyle changes that can be made to combat the common risk factors of developing high blood pressure. Some changes include: 

    • Regularly monitoring your blood pressure.

    • Eating a well-balanced diet.

    • Limiting sodium intake.

    • Getting at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week.

    • Limiting alcohol intake.

  3. High Blood Pressure Doesn’t Always Show Symptoms

    It is common for high blood pressure to not show any symptoms for quite some time. That’s why it’s crucial to take preventative measures to lower your risk of developing high blood pressure and to monitor your blood pressure regularly.
